Clarinetta, 2015

 

'Clarinetta' is a reinterpretation of the fairytale 'The Doll in the Grass', and grew out of an interest in telling fairytales set in the Caribbean.

This was inspired by a previous project of narrative paintings that combined Barbadian flora and fauna with fantasy.

I enjoy Tolkien's definition of Faerie as a 'perilous realm' where fairy-stories take place. The title Caribbean Faerie therefore refers to that realm as it exists within the Caribbean, and opens the doors for many stories to be told.
